Department Overview

The Gas and Liquid Fuels Operations team plays a crucial role in supporting EDF Trading's commercial objectives by managing operational controls under tight deadlines. This team is responsible for overseeing gas supply, demand, and trading activities, ensuring that all operational tasks are executed efficiently and effectively.

Position Overview

In this 24/7 role, you will report to the Gas Operations Supervisor and manage the critical operations of EDF Trading's natural gas portfolio across the UK and Europe.

Main Responsibilities
  • Execute daily tasks related to gas position management, logistics, and storage operations.
  • Schedule gas positions at various European hubs and confirm their status.
  • Collaborate with Gas Traders to balance positions through trading and capacity auctions.
  • Engage in out-of-hours trading activities based on predefined triggers.
  • Enhance commercial skills by trading spreads across Europe.
  • Optimize gas storage and interconnector flows, responding to operational notices.
  • Identify arbitrage opportunities to maximize position value and communicate findings to the trading desk.
  • Provide agency services for EDF Group entities.
  • Be flexible in taking on additional responsibilities as needed.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing operational procedures and ensure effective communication.
  • Coordinate with the IT team to test and review new tools.
  • Train new operators as required.
Experience Required
  • Previous experience in a Gas Operator role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of energy markets, particularly UK and European natural gas networks.
  • Understanding of balancing mechanisms and nomination deadlines.
  • Experience with major TSO portals and trading platforms.
  • Experience in a front office operations team under strict deadlines is advantageous.
  • Commercially focused mindset for portfolio optimization.
Technical Requirements
  • Degree level education is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel and strong analytical skills.
  • FCA qualification is ideal but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge of additional European languages is a plus.
  • Excellent logical reasoning abilities.

Work Schedule:

This position involves a 24/7 shift rotation, including on-call responsibilities.
