Setting the Standard Inspection Officer: A Key Role in Ensuring Quality Accommodation

Ealing Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Housing Standards Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our Commissioning Alliance, you will play a vital role in ensuring quality across the sector and ensuring that the standard of accommodation meets minimum requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Inspect Temporary Accommodation properties and work with accommodation providers to ensure that property conditions and standards are improved, maintained, and award a STS Grade to the London-wide agreed standard.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Local Authorities and Accommodation Providers.
- Travel within London to undertake property inspections and other duties from an Ealing council office or from home.
- Conduct inspections and enforcement in the Privately Rented Sector in a Local Authority setting or similar context.
- Make presentations and briefings to management and other colleagues within the Council.
- Develop and manage relationships with the Local Authority Temporary Accommodation and Private Sector Housing Teams.
- A Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health approved by the CIEH Environmental Health Registration Board, or at least 2 years relevant experience working in a Local Authority Private Sector Housing Service.
- A Recognised HHSRS Assessors training Certificate or qualification.
- Broad experience of inspection and understanding of enforcement in Private Sector Housing, including HMOs in a local authority context or relevant and appropriate transferrable skills.
- Experience of inspection and enforcement in the Privately Rented Sector in a Local Authority setting or similar context.
- Broad experience of inspection in Temporary Accommodation Housing in a Local Authority context or relevant and appropriate transferrable skills.
- Ability to prioritise own activities, to be well organised and motivated and to work to performance standards, targets and deadlines.
- Ability to promote and foster team working, according to the flexible demands and objectives of the service.
- Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally for the purposes of acting as an authorised officer, dealing with enquiries and complaints, giving professional advice and opinions, explaining statutory requirements, and giving and seeking information.
- A full-time post with a 35-hour week, with scope for some flexibility.
- Secondments are welcome.
