Role Responsibilities

As an MOT Product Specialist, you will be an integral member of the MOT Testing Service Policy Team. Your contributions will be vital in ensuring that all aspects of the MOT services align with legislative requirements, customer expectations, stakeholder interests, and DVSA objectives.

Your role will involve providing expert guidance and support to DVSA personnel, our clientele, and stakeholders regarding MOT policies and procedures. You will also be instrumental in the formulation and integration of innovative policies and procedures aimed at enhancing service delivery.

Additionally, you may serve as a subject matter expert within our digital teams, assisting in the development of MOT-related digital solutions, with training provided to facilitate this process.

Our focus is on user-centric service delivery, requiring the role holder to appreciate diverse perspectives while creatively addressing challenges. As part of the Policy Digital & Data directorate, the MOT service encompasses significant digital components and is recognized as a priority service.

Key Duties Include:

  • Collaborating with Product Managers to design and implement MOT products and policies from initial concept through to execution.
  • Evaluating product data and insights to demonstrate the advantages of proposed changes, detailing costs, benefits, risks, and potential stakeholder responses to guide decision-making and foster engagement.
  • Working alongside the policy manager and service owner to maintain prioritized work backlogs that reflect user needs, articulating these into actionable roadmaps and service plans.
  • Ensuring clear communication of operational and digital delivery requirements, which includes establishing technical standards, quality benchmarks, testing protocols, policies, and service expectations.
  • Actively participating in meetings with senior management from both internal and external stakeholder groups.

Candidate Profile

Your expertise in understanding user needs is essential, including skills in interpreting feedback, analyzing survey results, and comprehending the environments in which our users operate.

Strong organizational and planning skills are necessary, enabling you to prioritize tasks effectively for maximum efficiency. You should be a proactive problem solver, capable of making informed decisions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, allowing you to build positive relationships and collaborate with others to achieve objectives. You should also be comfortable leading projects and initiatives.

Your ability to represent the policy team and the Agency effectively, providing valuable insights and influencing a variety of stakeholders and customers, is key. You should be capable of clearly articulating policies and standards.

Additional Information

This position offers flexibility in terms of location, with opportunities for hybrid working arrangements. A minimum of 60% of your time will be expected at your designated base location. Travel within the UK, including some overnight stays, is a requirement of this role.

Occasional travel to Europe may also be necessary.

We welcome applications from individuals seeking part-time opportunities, though the successful candidate must be available for at least 30 hours per week.

There may be instances where late evenings or weekends are required to support service improvement initiatives, for which overtime or time off in lieu will be provided as agreed.
