About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialty Doctor in Neurology to join our team at Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust. As a Specialty Doctor, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our neurology services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric input into the Purbeck and Ferndown Community Learning Disability Teams and the Intensive Support Team for patients already open to the Purbeck and Ferndown CLDTs.
  • Work with the community teams to cover routine and emergency work and to keep waiting lists within the Trust agreed limits.
  • Provide opinions and advice to colleagues covering mental health act work if they are not section 12 approved.
  • Take part in the best fitting on-call rota depending on experience and whether the successful applicant is s12 approved.
  • Provide medical cross cover for annual, study and emergency sick leave with medical colleagues in the adult LD psychiatry service.
Requirements
  • General medical qualification e.g. GMC registration.
  • A minimum of four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis).
Desirable Qualifications
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent, e.g., membership of a psychiatry college in another country.
Eligibility
  • Must demonstrate interest and ability to apply psychiatric practice to the patient group of individuals with Learning Disabilities, a significant proportion of who also have other neurodevelopmental conditions.

  • Knowledge and experience in psychiatry.
  • Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement.
  • High level of clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wider medical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Make decisions based on evidence and experience including contribution of others.
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy, and legislation.

  • Have an understanding of own strengths and weaknesses and how these attributes affect professional functioning.
