Position Overview
Walsall Healthcare Trust is excited to announce a new opportunity for a full-time Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, specifically focusing on Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). This role is pivotal in establishing a dedicated ILD service within our Respiratory team. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping this innovative service, collaborating with regional networks, and managing the administration of antifibrotic therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality Respiratory and General Internal Medicine services, continuously enhancing practice based on clinical evidence and standards.
- Provide expert advice on Respiratory care to colleagues across various specialties.
- Deliver comprehensive outpatient services, including advanced interventional procedures such as Bronchoscopy and EBUS, with training provided as necessary.
- Contribute to the development of Medical Thoracoscopy services, if desired.
- Offer clinical support and educational guidance to junior medical staff, medical students, and postgraduate trainees.
- Engage in local and national quality improvement initiatives as part of personal professional development, with departmental support for training.
- Participate in research activities in collaboration with the research team.
- Maintain a commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
- Actively engage in continuing professional development and personal growth plans.
- Participate in Saturday respiratory ward rounds on a rotational basis with fellow consultants.

Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated clinician with a strong interest in ILD, demonstrating a proven track record in clinical service delivery, service enhancement, and education. Participation in annual job planning and appraisal is essential for maintaining professional standards.
Responsibilities will include conducting bronchoscopy sessions, leading general respiratory ward rounds, and mentoring junior medical staff. Candidates should possess skills in Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) or be willing to undergo training in this area.
This position encompasses 10 Programmed Activities per week, with the potential for additional activities based on negotiation, including participation in the General Medical on-call rota.
