Our Endocrinology and Diabetes Department is among the largest in the nation, integrating both general and specialized diabetes and endocrinology services, including nationally recognized specialist endocrinology.

The role encompasses general diabetes and endocrinology consultations, youth endocrinology, and diabetes transition, alongside a rotational obligation to general medicine.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will:

  • Collaborate in the care of general medical in-patients under the endocrine team.
  • Participate in the acute medical on-call rota.
  • Conduct general diabetes and endocrine consultations, along with additional clinics as outlined in the job plan and service needs.
  • Enhance educational opportunities for trainees through service reorganization and development initiatives.
  • Engage in regular audits and supervise Quality Improvement Projects (QIP) undertaken by trainees.
  • Participate in general management and committee activities within the hospital.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to optimize clinical care and patient outcomes, facilitating safe discharges.
  • Work in partnership with community teams and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of cross-site collaborations to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Provide coverage for Consultant colleagues during their leave.
  • Streamline collaboration between hospital and community services to support appropriate follow-up arrangements.
  • Offer peer support, supervision, and professional development for trainees.
  • Assume educational responsibilities for the training and appraisal of junior staff.
  • Commit to ongoing medical audit and evaluation within the department.
  • Foster communication and other non-clinical aspects of new departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in the education of clinical medical students.
  • Address referrals from colleagues.
  • Engage in other specialized services or initiatives as required.
  • Maintain registration with the Royal College of Physicians for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), with funding provided for agreed personal development plans.
  • Participate in annual appraisals as part of a structured divisional system.

Candidate Profile

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification.
  • GMC Registration.
  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent, or within three months of CCT.

  • Higher degree (PhD or MD).

Experience

  • Extensive experience in General Internal Medicine, Diabetes, and Endocrinology.
  • Teaching experience or a willingness to educate medical, nursing, and other staff.
  • Experience in audit or clinical research.
