About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team in the Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) programme. The successful candidate will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes through streamlined patient flow, reduced length of stay, and ensuring patients are active participants in their own recovery process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate the perioperative care of patients undergoing major abdominal surgery, including enhanced recovery and prehabilitation pathways.
  • Work alongside other Trust services to provide clinical expertise and advise on effective, sustainable enhanced recovery pathways.
  • Contribute to the inpatient care of patients undergoing colorectal surgery and their post-operative follow-up.
  • Collaborate with the Anaesthetics team to develop a prehabilitation programme for patients undergoing major surgery.
Requirements
  • Registered Nurse level 1.
  • First degree in Nursing or health-related subject.
  • Working towards or willing to work towards relevant Masters-level studies.
  • Advanced Communication Skills Training.
Person Specification
  • Proven experience of surgical experience (Band 6 or above).
  • Sound knowledge of NHS operational and strategic issues and their impact on Enhanced Recovery Programme.
  • Knowledge of MDT working.
  • Experience of prioritising and managing multiple projects to deadline.
Skills
  • Ability to synthesise complex facts or situations requiring analysis, formulating and mentoring delivery plans.
  • Evidence of adopting problem-solving approaches to complex issues and situations.
  • Experience of audit and other benchmarking strategies, using the result of interim change and improvement.
Planning and Organisational
  • Plan and organise across a broad range of complex activities, formulating and adjusting plans as required.
  • Able to take responsibility for policy implementation and service development.
