Position Overview

The Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, in collaboration with local authorities, is establishing a dedicated team aimed at providing support to young individuals and their families facing significant emotional challenges. This initiative is grounded in the principles of trauma-informed care, focusing on understanding the experiences of young people rather than labeling them with disorders. The team comprises various professionals, including Clinical Psychologists, Graduate Mental Health Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, and Educational Specialists, all committed to fostering a culture of mutual learning and respect.

Core Responsibilities

As an Assistant Psychologist, you will work under the guidance of a Clinical Psychologist to:

  • Assist the team in comprehending the psychological distress experienced by children and young people.
  • Support the networks surrounding these individuals in recognizing the effects of developmental trauma.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Psychologists during consultations with social workers, educators, and other professionals.
  • Contribute to the development of psychological assessments and training programs.
  • Engage in research and evaluation initiatives as they arise within the service.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and reflective practice sessions.
  • Take part in continuous professional development and team-building activities.

Desirable Skills

Proficiency in Welsh is preferred, but candidates fluent in either Welsh or English are encouraged to apply. We also welcome applications from individuals identifying as part of minority ethnic or global majority groups.
