Position Overview

We are seeking an individual who is passionate about data analysis and is eager to contribute significantly to the formulation and execution of the compensation and benefits strategy within the UK Civil Service. As a member of our Employee Experience and Reward team, you will take on the role of Compensation and Benefits Specialist within our Human Resources department. In this dynamic position, you will spearhead the Compensation and Benefits function, ensuring the effective realization of our compensation strategy.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys delving into data and aims to enhance our compensation and recognition framework, aligning with our organizational strategy to attract and retain top talent. Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Leading the Compensation and Benefits function to guarantee the effective execution of the compensation strategy.
  • Drafting reports and recommendations for modifications to compensation and benefits.
  • Facilitating the benchmarking of the compensation and recognition framework.
  • Offering expert guidance to inform individual compensation decisions.
  • Collaborating with our Trade Union representatives to maintain a constructive and cooperative partnership, playing a vital role in compensation discussions.
  • Providing analysis and insights for mandatory reports, such as gender and ethnicity pay disparities.
  • Delivering expert advice and support regarding the range of benefits available, including pension schemes.
  • Managing the allowances framework to ensure it meets organizational needs and promotes positive behaviors.
  • Working alongside colleagues in various departments to support effective cross-organizational collaboration and deliver on joint initiatives.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for individuals who possess:

  • Compensation and Benefits Expertise – Knowledge of public sector compensation systems, with proven experience in developing costed compensation proposals, including benchmarking activities, contributing to union discussions, and providing expert advice.
  • HR Benefits Knowledge – A solid understanding of non-monetary benefits and a proven track record in supporting benefits packages, ideally with experience in researching and designing new offerings.
  • Interpersonal Skills – Demonstrated self-awareness and experience in influencing a variety of managers, senior leaders, and colleagues, establishing credibility as a trusted advisor.
  • Management Abilities – Proven capability to motivate and develop team members, work effectively in a collaborative environment, and promote a values-driven, diverse, and inclusive workplace. Previous management experience is not mandatory.
  • Organizational Skills – Demonstrated experience in managing multiple priorities effectively, setting and meeting deadlines for yourself and others, and adapting plans to changing circumstances.
  • Change Management Experience – Proven ability to implement changes effectively, communicate key messages to diverse audiences, build stakeholder understanding and support, and measure success.
