Government Relations Specialist

£33,000 - £38,000 + £1000 flex allowance, up to 15% bonus and benefits

Are you ready to take on the role of Government Relations Specialist? We are seeking an individual who can assist us in transforming the possibilities for our External Engagement and Policy Team.

This position will play a crucial role in shaping corporate strategy while engaging with governmental bodies, parliamentary representatives, and key third-party stakeholders. If you possess a strong interest in political affairs, demonstrate persistence in addressing issues, and excel in building relationships, this opportunity has much to offer.

What does the role entail?

Supporting Gatwick Airport's public policy strategy and stakeholder engagement. Collaborating with the Public Affairs Lead and Head of External Engagement and Policy to influence government officials, MPs, local councils, and third-party organizations to align with Gatwick's corporate goals. You will be responsible for leading engagement and policy formulation in areas such as sustainability, transportation access, and workforce development, articulating the Gatwick narrative while incorporating external stakeholder perspectives to shape our corporate strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Engaging with stakeholders and participating in events to advocate for Gatwick's public policy objectives Profiling Gatwick's essential parliamentary and corporate stakeholders, maintaining relationship management and correspondence databases Composing local and national stakeholder communications, as well as briefing documents and profiles for meetings with senior political figures and internal stakeholders Monitoring political trends and sentiments at a national level; collaborating with internal teams to provide Public Affairs support for initiatives and announcements. Coordinating written contributions to government consultations and other public policy entities, offering insights to relevant colleagues on significant policy matters. Playing a vital role in crisis communications to manage the airport's reputation during disruptions or incidents.

What qualifications are we seeking?

Experience in an in-house public affairs capacity within a corporate setting A degree in a relevant field is preferred Experience engaging with governmental, parliamentary, and influential third-party audiences in the UK Awareness of significant developments in transport, infrastructure, and environmental policy Ability to identify issues that may affect business reputation Strong research capabilities, translating technical information into compelling narratives for external stakeholders Excellent verbal communication skills for effectively briefing stakeholders Proficient writing skills, including drafting reports and correspondence for senior stakeholders
