About the Programme

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) is seeking innovative and enthusiastic GPs to participate in our exciting new programme aimed at developing GPwER in gastroenterology across the southwest.

This 24-month training programme will support the development of several GPwER in gastroenterology, providing a unique opportunity to work alongside a gastroenterologist in an outpatient clinic setting.

Main Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with a gastroenterologist in an outpatient clinic setting, learning to consult patients with general gastrointestinal presentations in a supervised and supported environment
  • Participate in a monthly education session and guided independent study to support learning and development
  • Contribute to an active community of like-minded GPwER in gastroenterology, sharing experiences, training, resources, and innovation

Requirements
  • Currently working as a GP in a clinical capacity
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, carers, GP, nurses, and other professional staff
  • Able to work and communicate effectively within the wider multidisciplinary team
  • Enquiring and critical approach to work, and willing to work within the remit of national and local guidelines
Essential Skills and Abilities
  • Caring attitude towards patients
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated and enthusiastic, with a desire to explore new roles and develop new skills
  • Committed to continuing medical education and professional development
Additional Requirements
  • Able to organise time and workload effectively, managing roles in both primary and secondary care
  • Familiar with the current structure of the health system, as well as recent initiatives and changes
Qualifications and Training
  • To hold a degree in medicine that is recognised by the GMC (General Medical Council)
  • To be a fully qualified GP holding MRCGP or be due to completed GP training before the end of August 2024
