Job Description

Programme Overview

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is seeking innovative and enthusiastic General Practitioners (GPs) to join a 24-month training programme aimed at developing GPwER in gastroenterology. This programme is designed to support the development of several GPwER in gastroenterology across the southwest.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work alongside a gastroenterologist at a local hospital in outpatient clinics for 1 session per week, learning to consult patients with general gastrointestinal presentations in a supervised and supported environment.
  • Participate in an educational programme to support learning, including a monthly education session and guided independent study.
  • Contribute to an active community of like-minded GPwER in gastroenterology across the South-West, sharing experiences, training, resources, and innovation.

About the Programme

This programme aims to develop GPwER working across primary and secondary care in innovative roles supporting gastroenterology waiting lists and pathways, while creating rewarding and interesting careers.

Requirements

  • Currently working as a GP in a clinical capacity.
  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, carers, GP, nurses, and other professional staff.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively within the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT).
  • Enquiring and critical approach to work, and willing to work within the remit of national and local guidelines.
  • Aware of own limitations and when to ask for help.

Skills and Abilities

  • Caring attitude towards patients.
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Motivated and enthusiastic, with a desire to explore new roles and develop new skills.
  • Committed to continuing medical education and professional development.
  • Able to work and communicate effectively within the wider MDT.

Additional and Aptitudes

  • Able to organise time and workload effectively, managing roles in both primary and secondary care over the course of the training programme.
  • Familiar with the current structure of the health system, as well as recent initiatives and changes.

Qualifications and Training

  • To hold a degree in medicine that is recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • To be a fully qualified GP holding MRCGP or be due to complete GP training before the end of August 2024.
