South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) serves as the dedicated Economic and Community Development agency for the Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway.

Your Responsibilities

As a Community Engagement Specialist, you will be the primary contact for social entrepreneurs, community-led initiatives, and social enterprises at every phase of their development journey, from inception to established entities. Handling a diverse array of inquiries, you will offer business development guidance and practical support, while also directing clients to additional expertise within the sector.

This may involve assisting clients in refining their initial concepts, supporting the formulation of strategic visions and viable business plans, advising on community asset acquisitions and development initiatives, crafting sustainable funding strategies, or innovating product/service design and delivery. In each instance, you will listen, guide, and advise clients on the best path forward, helping them to articulate their vision, mission, and strategy. Whether it’s securing funding, enhancing the capacity of client organizations, referrals to specialists, or assessing business needs, you will provide a wealth of information and expertise.

Required Skills and Experience

Ideally, you will possess extensive experience as a social enterprise advisor, business development coach, or consultant, and/or may have managed a social enterprise. You should have a proven track record in assisting organizations from inception to generating their own sustainable revenue and an understanding of inclusive and democratic business models. You will be a natural relationship builder capable of establishing consultative partnerships with organizations and their senior leaders. With a commercial focus and educated to degree level SCQF Level 7 (or equivalent), you will have excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills, analytical and financial acumen, project evaluation experience, and strong writing abilities.

We operate a hybrid working model that balances remote work with office attendance to meet the needs of our clients, teams, and employees. To facilitate your role effectively, IT equipment will be delivered to your home address to ensure a smooth onboarding process.

This position is full-time and permanent, with consideration for alternative working patterns.

Clients are located throughout the South of Scotland, and this role necessitates extensive travel across the region to address our client and organizational needs.
