About the Role

The Duty Compliance Accountant is a critical position within NC Associates, responsible for ensuring the accurate accounting of customs and excise duties in the general ledger. This role requires a strong understanding of HMRC guidelines and the ability to manage and oversee two month-end processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review, consolidate, and prepare monthly excise duty liability reports.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of customs and excise duties in the general ledger, in accordance with the business timetable.
  • Forecast excise duty gains and losses at UK terminals, reporting variances to budget to the Group Financial Controller.
  • Ensure core UK terminal activity operates within HMRC guidelines, with all stock terminals having appropriate licenses to cover operational activity.
  • Manage excise duty deferment limits with UK terminals to prevent supply interruptions.
  • Communicate tax implications of operational changes to the business, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external excise duty stakeholders.
  • Engage with HMRC and represent the company on customs and excise matters with local agents.
Requirements
  • Accounting and finance degree, with CIMA/ACCA/ACA qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a similar position, with exposure to duty and excise accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills, with attention to detail and ability to effectively interact with stakeholders.
  • Willingness to learn required legislation and legal notices relating to customs and excise.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerBI skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team, contributing to team results and deadlines.
  • Commitment to a minimum 12-month contract.
