Job Overview

We are looking for a skilled practitioner psychologist or child and adolescent psychotherapist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to enhance and oversee the structured delivery of a high-quality specialized clinical psychology service for families and staff within neonatal and pediatric inpatient teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting comprehensive psychological assessments and interventions with families in the neonatal unit and pediatric wards. Additionally, you will provide expert advice and consultation on psychological care to fellow health professionals and support clinical team members. The role requires autonomy within established professional guidelines while being an integral part of the multidisciplinary teams. You will leverage your expertise in evidence-based psychological interventions and research methodologies to contribute to audit, research, and service enhancement initiatives. Furthermore, you will play a key role in the training and ongoing professional development of clinical psychologists and other healthcare professionals. As part of the broader pediatric psychology team, you will also contribute to the Trust's clinical health psychology services.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct psychological assessments and interventions with families in neonatal units.

- Provide specialized psychological advice and consultation to multidisciplinary teams, including neonatal and pediatric inpatient staff.

- Support neonatal staff teams in their psychological care efforts.

- Liaise with additional specialized services as needed.

- Engage in service audit and evaluation activities.

- Participate in broader neonatal networks.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology or its equivalent.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant post-doctoral training.

Essential Experience

  • Post-qualification experience, including a minimum of 50 hours of clinical supervision as a clinical psychologist (or equivalent) over at least 18 months.
  • Experience in specialized psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient, and residential environments.
  • Proven experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in service development and innovation.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in pediatric or medical settings.
  • Experience in providing staff support.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential Skills

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex and sensitive information to children, young people, their families, and other professionals.
  • Proficiency in utilizing complex psychological assessment methods and interventions requiring sustained concentration.
  • Skills in providing consultation to both professional and non-professional groups.
  • Experience in addressing diversity issues, including working within a multicultural framework.

Desirable Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized psychological approaches for specific challenges encountered in this context, such as traumatic reactions and bereavement.
