Job Overview

We are looking for a dedicated clinical child psychologist or psychotherapist specializing in child and adolescent mental health. This is a unique opportunity to establish and maintain a high-quality clinical psychology service tailored for families and healthcare professionals within our neonatal and pediatric inpatient teams.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth psychological assessments and interventions with families in the neonatal unit and pediatric wards. This role also involves providing expert advice and consultation on psychological care to multidisciplinary teams and supporting clinical staff members. The position requires the ability to work independently while adhering to established professional standards as part of a collaborative team. The candidate will leverage their expertise in evidence-based psychological practices and research methodologies to engage in service audits, research initiatives, and developmental projects. Additionally, the role includes contributing to the training and ongoing professional development of clinical psychologists and other healthcare providers. The postholder will integrate into the broader pediatric psychology team and contribute to the Trust's clinical health psychology services.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct psychological assessments and interventions with families in neonatal settings.

- Provide specialized psychological advice and consultation to multidisciplinary teams in neonatal and pediatric care.

- Support and collaborate with neonatal staff teams.

- Liaise with additional specialized services as necessary.

- Engage in service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.

- Participate in broader neonatal networks to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Doctoral-level training in clinical psychology or an equivalent qualification.
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Relevant post-doctoral training in specialized areas.

Essential Experience

  • Post-qualification experience with a minimum of 50 hours of clinical supervision as a clinical psychologist (or equivalent) over at least 18 months.
  • Proven experience in specialized psychological assessment and treatment across various care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient, and residential environments.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in service development and innovation.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in pediatric or medical settings.
  • Experience providing support to staff members.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential Skills

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex and sensitive information to children, families, and professional colleagues.
  • Proficiency in utilizing advanced psychological assessment and intervention techniques that require sustained focus and concentration.
  • Ability to provide consultation to both professional and non-professional groups.
  • Experience addressing diversity issues and working within a multicultural framework.

Desirable Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of specialized psychological approaches for specific challenges encountered in this field, such as traumatic reactions and bereavement.
