Role Overview

As a Market Integrity Surveillance Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
  • Conducting oversight of trading activities through the examination and analysis of automated alerts to pinpoint potential compliance or market integrity issues.
  • Reviewing transactions by investigating automated alerts to uncover possible financial crime threats.
  • Evaluating business communications through the scrutiny of automated alerts to detect potential compliance risks.
  • Collaborating effectively with fellow analysts within the Centre of Excellence (CoE).
  • Partnering with Senior Analysts to initiate the escalation of alerts or investigations into suspicious activities and aiding in the ongoing inquiry until resolution.
  • Exhibiting a methodical approach to documenting and strategizing investigations.
  • Utilizing current reports and data to derive insights that enhance daily operations.
  • Employing software tools such as Excel, PowerBI, and Alteryx to manage, analyze, and present data in a meaningful manner.
  • Identifying and suggesting improvements based on insights derived from available tools and metrics.
  • Gaining a comprehensive understanding of market integrity risks and the trading practices of Shell Trading & Supply (T&S).
Qualifications and Skills

We are interested in candidates who possess the following qualifications:
  • Understanding of Market Abuse Regulations: A foundational grasp of market integrity, financial crime regulations, and conduct expectations.
  • Essential Soft Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork abilities, capable of conveying information clearly and persuasively to ensure timely task completion. Strong report writing and analytical skills are necessary for processing information, making informed decisions, and presenting findings succinctly.
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are advantageous:
  • Experience in Monitoring and Trade Surveillance: A basic understanding of market integrity risks and their manifestation in Oil and Energy markets, informed by knowledge of past cases and the firm's operations.
  • Familiarity with Market and Product Dynamics: A foundational understanding of oil and energy products and their trading mechanisms, including logistics in physical markets, enabling the identification of atypical behaviors. (Desirable: proficient knowledge of products and their trading practices.)
  • Data Analysis and Manipulation Skills: Proficient in data manipulation and analytical techniques, allowing for the assessment of large datasets to identify trends and anomalies that support trading activity investigations.
