About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our Energy Design Team at Clancy. As a key member of the team, you will play a vital part in delivering various schemes within the energy sector.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Design and Pre-Construction and will be responsible for leading an established team. Your primary focus will be on ensuring the overall responsibility of design deliverables within the SSE arena.

Key Responsibilities
  • Health, Safety, and Sustainability: Establish and promote best practices in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability, and quality matters.
  • Design Management: Collate and promote strategic advice and knowledge associated with designer's processes and design management best practices.
  • Team Development: Take a personal interest in identifying, coaching, and developing key staff.
  • Engineering Expertise: Promote the use of engineering expertise and advice to add value to the process of design development.
  • Programme Management: Ensure all programmes, scopes, and reports are updated and communicated regularly.
  • Design Issues: Raise any design issues with the Head of Design.
  • CDM Compliance: Ensure compliance with the CDM 2015 requirements, for both internal and external designers.
  • Residual Design Risk Management: Oversee residual design risk management framework and oversee communication of residual design risks to risk owner.
  • Other Duties: Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time.
  • Pre-Construction Activities: Support and where required, produce scoping documents with resource-loaded programmes for Pre-Construction activities.
  • Pre-Construction Information: Ensure appropriate pre-construction information is coordinated.
  • Design, Construction, and Safety Standards: Ensure compliance with design, construction, and safety standards as appropriate.
  • Customer Liaison: Liaise with customers over network design issues to ensure compliance with design and construction policies and standards.
  • Project Delivery: Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the scope, budget, and timescale requirements to the satisfaction of the client.
  • Operational Procedures and Technical Standards: Participate in reviews and updates of the current operational procedures and technical standards.
  • Customer Service: Offer consistently high customer service in interactions with customers via all communication channels.
  • Team Coaching and Mentoring: Act as a role model within the Engineering Team and demonstrate coaching and mentoring for team members who are developing their careers within the industry.
  • Customer Feedback: Act as an escalation point for customer feedback when support is needed by team members.
  • Project Tracking: Accurately record and track projects across all workstreams using team trackers and systems.
  • Site Visits: Attend site visits.
  • Technical Review: Conduct technical reviews of projects.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate strong communication skills along with teamworking attributes.
  • Business Development: Customer-focused when dealing with customers, identifying their needs along with business development skills.
  • Relationship Development: Develop external and internal relationships.
  • Principal Designer Duties: Undertake Principal Designer duties where appropriate.
  • Communication: Demonstrate a strong ability to communicate through sketching, drawing, presentations, and writing.
  • Quality Assurance: Check own and others' work providing feedback.
  • Prioritization and Deadlines: Understand priorities and meet deadlines.
  • As-Built Reports: Produce as-built reports/drawings.
Person Specification
  • Education: Master's Degree qualified in a relevant subject.
  • Experience: Experience working with IDNO's, DNO's, or ICP's.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of DNO Drawing practices from LV up to 132kV.
  • Commercial Awareness: Commercial awareness.
  • Engineering Principles: Solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • CDM Knowledge: Excellent knowledge of CDM.
