About the Role

We are seeking volunteers to support patients and families on the ward in our Glasgow Hospice by providing companionship and emotional support. As a volunteer, you will visit with inpatients, offer a listening ear, and give patients' loved ones the chance to have a short break.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families
  • Offer a listening ear and engage in activities with patients
  • Support patients and families by signposting them to other services and staff
  • Participate in the evaluation of the service and provide feedback
  • Represent the Companion Service positively and maintain confidentiality
Requirements
  • Friendly, sensitive, and a good listener
  • Patience, empathy, self-awareness, and emotional stability
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to build rapport with others
  • Commitment and reliability, with the ability to keep appointments and volunteer for up to 3 hours a week
  • An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and flexibility in meeting individual needs
