Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Locum Consultant Anaesthetist in Paediatric Anaesthesia to join our team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a fixed-term locum post for 12 months to cover maternity leave, starting in November/December 2024.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality anaesthetic care to children and adolescents in our paediatric anaesthesia department. This will include:

  • Providing anaesthetic services for paediatric general/urological surgery, including emergency surgery and neonatal procedures
  • Participating in the on-call rota and providing cover for paediatric lists of all non-cardiac paediatric specialties
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of clinical policies and guidelines
  • Participating in teaching and training activities, including the supervision of junior doctors and medical students
  • Engaging in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, and risk management
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A medical qualification acceptable by the GMC
  • GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC's specialist register or equivalent training and experience
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in Anaesthesia in the UK in the NHS
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA) or equivalent
  • CCT in Anaesthesia or equivalent
Desirable Qualifications and Experience

While not essential, the following qualifications and experience would be highly desirable:

  • Possession of other related postgraduate qualification such as MD, BSc, MSc or PhD
  • Additional advanced training or fellowship in a relevant sub-specialty
  • Life support courses instructor, APLS / EPALs etc.
