Position Description
Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a pivotal role in fulfilling the Government's five objectives, driving sustained economic growth, transforming public service delivery, and enhancing living standards across the nation.
The AI Policy Directorate at DSIT is integral to this initiative, facilitating the responsible use of AI technology by society and UK businesses while mitigating potential risks associated with its deployment.
The advertised positions will be part of DSIT's AI regulation team, which operates within the AI Policy Directorate. The team's responsibilities include supporting the Government's legislative agenda, establishing legal frameworks for the development and deployment of advanced AI models. The team also collaborates across the regulatory landscape, assisting regulators in developing the necessary skills and capabilities to effectively oversee AI in their respective areas.
This role is at the forefront of policy innovation, ensuring ethical AI development and advancements that will benefit millions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with G7 leads on various aspects of policy development and implementation.
- Assist in broader policy initiatives related to AI legislation, including consultations, parliamentary engagements, and legal drafting.
- Establish governance frameworks to support future AI regulation and engage with regulators on current initiatives.
- Align government and industry perspectives on AI regulation.
- Identify long-term policy solutions to enhance regulators' AI capabilities, working closely with analysts and relevant departments.
- Evaluate the compatibility of the current regulatory framework with AI technology and propose necessary policy adjustments.
- Design and implement support or grant programs for regulators to address AI-related challenges.
