Position Overview
The Geriatric Medicine / Care of the Elderly (COTE) services at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board are structured around two dedicated wards, each accommodating 24 patients. These facilities provide comprehensive acute stroke care, including around-the-clock thrombolysis and access to advanced thrombectomy services. Rehabilitation for stroke patients is conducted in a specialized unit, ensuring a focused recovery process. The acute stroke service is supported by a team of Stroke Specialist Nurses, and TIA clinics operate four days a week. The orthogeriatric service is enhanced by collaboration with a consultant geriatrician and a specialist doctor, working closely with the orthopaedic department.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver expert consultant-level care to a designated number of patients within a 24-bed COTE ward, collaborating with fellow consultants and a dedicated team of junior medical staff.
- Participate in regular ward rounds to evaluate patient management and discharge strategies in conjunction with junior doctors and the multidisciplinary team.
- Conduct outpatient clinics, adhering to a structured template that includes new patient assessments and follow-up consultations.
- Maintain ongoing responsibility for the patients under your care, ensuring effective delegation and training of staff while aligning with departmental operational policies.
- Engage in a 1:18 acute medical on-call rota, providing prospective cover and participating in post-take ward rounds, while overseeing the training of junior medical staff.

Qualifications and Experience
- Full GMC registration and license to practice.
- MRCP or equivalent qualification.
