Advanced Clinical Fellow in Critical Care

Romford, Greater London, United Kingdom Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

Please be informed that this is a MC70 role.

This is a two-year appointment, and candidates should possess relevant experience in Intensive Care. This position is ideal for a seasoned senior ITU specialty/registrar physician seeking to enhance their clinical expertise or develop a specialist interest area (SIA) before pursuing CCT/CESR/Portfolio pathway.

We are a large and diverse 57-bedded Intensive Care Unit (ICU) looking for a senior clinical fellow to join our team. This is a remarkable opportunity for a physician with a passion for critical care to advance their clinical skills. The role is structured to offer extensive critical care exposure, including peri-operative management for complex surgeries, neuro-intensive care, follow-up clinics, and collaboration with various specialties to further enhance critical care services within the organization.

We offer a broad spectrum of training opportunities, making these positions particularly suitable for physicians aiming to enter specialty training at stages 2/3 or apply for CESR or portfolio pathways.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality, responsive critical care services to the healthcare system, ensuring responsibility for patients within the designated area in collaboration with colleagues in anaesthetics and other clinical departments. This includes managing patients in the ICUs and HDUs, assessing patients and initiating critical care interventions in emergency departments, recovery areas, and wards, as well as facilitating patient transfers (both intra and inter-hospital). Adhere to the established job plan, which will undergo annual review. Serve as the team leader for emergency out-of-hours resident on-call coverage for critical care medicine. Participate in postgraduate and ongoing education for medical, nursing, technical staff, general practitioners, and other allied health professionals.

About Our Organization

We are an organization committed to continuous improvement. We have been recognized as the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance and have successfully moved out of special measures. Our Chief Executive has received accolades for outstanding leadership. Our progress is fueled by a commitment to delivering care that we take pride in and that our patients appreciate.

Our workforce of 8,000 staff members, representing 146 different nationalities, serves three diverse London boroughs, with a significant proportion from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds. We are proud to be a London Living Wage employer, with over 400 staff members engaged in apprenticeship programs.

Operating from two primary locations, we manage two of the busiest emergency departments in London, with a substantial number of visits each year.

Patients in our region benefit from state-of-the-art facilities, including new surgical theatres and community diagnostic centers, which significantly enhance our capacity for diagnostic procedures.

We are excited about the upcoming implementation of an electronic patient record system, which will streamline access to patient information across our network of hospitals, improving efficiency for staff and care for patients.
