The Upper Gastrointestinal service at the Division of Surgery – BHRUT NHS is seeking a dedicated and proactive Nurse to oversee the Upper Gastrointestinal Clinical Nurse Specialist Team. This role is integral to providing exceptional patient-centered care within a highly specialized environment.

Main Responsibilities

The Lead Upper GI Clinical Nurse Specialist (Lead CNS) plays a pivotal role within the Trust, essential for delivering a high-quality service to patients referred to the UGI service, including those diagnosed with UGI cancer. The Lead UGI CNS will function as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within the Surgical Clinical Care group, with added responsibilities for the management and professional guidance of both Upper and Lower GI Clinical Nurse Specialists.

The post holder will oversee and participate in the delivery of nursing services within both UGI and Lower Gastrointestinal (LGI) services, supported by the Gastro Matron and Lead Cancer Nurse.

The Lead UGI CNS will exhibit strong clinical decision-making abilities and a commitment to enhancing care standards within the Upper GI service. This role will influence patient care through a comprehensive approach that encompasses clinical expertise, education, and quality assurance. Collaborating with the CNSs in the team, the post holder will empower primary caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to ensure a high standard of care for all patients with upper GI cancer throughout their treatment journey.

The Lead UGI CNS will also engage in the development and execution of Integrated Care Pathways, protocols, and related initiatives. This position will require the development of skills to serve as a resource facilitator for educating and training other staff and students, thereby optimizing nursing care delivery.

Education/Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • Registered nurse, 1st Level with current NMC registration
  • Post-registration qualification in Oncology or Haematology
  • Advanced communication skills training
