Apple Recruitment is seeking a highly skilled Research Officer to join our team in European Affairs. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing timely, accurate, and high-quality research and analysis to individual MLAs, Assembly Committees, and senior managers within the Assembly Secretariat.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Authoring Bill Research Papers that are published prior to the Committee Stage of the Assembly's legislative passage.
  • Producing a range of research outputs, including customized research papers, legislative analysis briefings, financial impact assessments, blog posts, data visualizations, and digital dashboards.
  • Presenting research briefings to Assembly Committees and making recommendations on potential lines of inquiry.
  • Advising Assembly Committees on subject-specific aspects of forward planning, including establishing terms of reference, identifying key issues, and research requirements.
  • Providing research support to Members and the Committee Clerk for Committee visits, including traveling with Committees to external events.
  • Overseeing the work of undergraduate and postgraduate placement students working in their area and providing peer guidance to agency and new research staff.
  • Contributing to the peer review of colleagues' research and maintaining a specialist knowledge of their research portfolio through relevant training, consultation of academic and other literature, and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of EU decision-making processes.
  • Complying with all of the Assembly Commission's staff policies and procedures, including Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work policies and training requirements.

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Research Officer with a strong background in EU policy and decision-making. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in a relevant field, such as EU law, politics, or international relations.
  • Experience in research and analysis, including authoring research papers and presenting briefings to senior officials.
  • Strong knowledge of EU decision-making processes and policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with MLAs, Assembly Committees, and senior managers.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
