Economic Research Specialist

MCS Group is excited to be working in partnership with the Northern Ireland Assembly to find a highly skilled Economic Research Specialist.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will be responsible for conducting objective, evidence-based research on economic issues, including public finance. This will involve retrieving and synthesizing information and data from a wide range of sources, including online databases.
The role will also involve delivering high-quality research and analysis on economics, including public finance, in a timely and accurate manner. This will include producing well-written, concise, and accessible research outputs, such as research papers, training materials, and digital dashboards.
The Economic Research Specialist will also be responsible for presenting research briefings and training materials to individual MLAs and their staff, as well as Assembly Committee Members and Officials.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research on economic issues, including public finance, and deliver high-quality research and analysis in a timely and accurate manner.
- Retrieve and synthesize information and data from a wide range of sources, including online databases.
- Produce well-written, concise, and accessible research outputs, such as research papers, training materials, and digital dashboards.
- Present research briefings and training materials to individual MLAs and their staff, as well as Assembly Committee Members and Officials.
- Contribute to the peer review of colleagues' research outputs.
- Identify potential witnesses and specialist advisors for Assembly Committees' consideration and use.
- Maintain a specialist knowledge of the research portfolio through ongoing learning and development.
- Provide support to those working in undergraduate and postgraduate placements and internships, and those recently joining the team.
- Forge and develop links with departmental officials, external research bodies, academics, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Comply with Assembly policies, procedures, and practices applicable to Assembly Officials.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a second-class honours degree (or equivalent or post-graduate qualification) in a relevant field, such as economics or public policy. They will also have at least two years of work experience in conducting objective, evidence-based research on economic issues, including public finance.
The ideal candidate will have excellent research and analytical skills, as well as strong communication and presentation skills. They will also be able to work effectively in a team and have a strong understanding of the Northern Ireland Assembly's policies and procedures.
