The primary responsibility of the Blood Collection Specialist is to ensure patient comfort and confirm their consent for blood sample collection.
Key Responsibilities- Perform blood sample collection in accordance with established protocols and training.
- Ensure samples are stored in suitable containers and accurately labeled to verify patient identity.
- Check patient identification against requests and confirm details with the patient whenever feasible.
- Document the collection of blood samples in patient records as per practice procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of all consultations in the patient's electronic health record.
- Ensure timely dispatch of samples to the designated laboratories.
- Schedule follow-up appointments as necessary.
- Provide chaperone support for medical professionals when required.
- Assist in general treatment room activities as needed.
- Obtain and document informed consent, whether verbal or written.
- Adhere to infection control guidelines consistently.
- Collaborate effectively as part of the broader practice team.
- Manage and organize individual patient consultations efficiently.
- Promptly report any anomalies, incidents, complaints, accidents, or significant patient issues to the senior healthcare assistant.
