Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Healthcare Specialist to join our team at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust. As a Respiratory Nurse Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing expert care to patients with respiratory diseases.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide responsive care to patients, aiming to maintain them in their own home and avoid unnecessary admissions and expedite early discharge to healthcare services.
  • Work autonomously in the clinical assessment and management of patients with respiratory diseases, providing advice and support to ensure safety and supporting patients where oxygen is no longer required.
  • Advise and support other healthcare professionals, patients, and carers to improve care of patients with respiratory conditions.
  • Support patients at end of life, working collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Promote, support, and assist in the Pulmonary Rehabilitation services for patients.
  • Provide inpatient specialist input to Respiratory patients.
  • Provide specialist clinical input to the Outpatient Clinics within the Respiratory Directorate.
  • Ensure that all existing procedures and protocols relating to patient care are reviewed and updated as required.
  • Provide mentorship to students as we are a teaching area for student nurses.
Person SpecificationExperience
  • Registered 1st level nurse.
  • Able to take on new ideas, skills, and knowledge.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Be numerate.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working with respiratory patients.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Able to manage the care of a group of people and prioritize workload with no supervision.
  • Able to write detailed reports/letters.
  • Able to teach/train less qualified learners/carers.
  • Keyboard skills/computer systems (e.g., EMIS).
