Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Public Health Specialist to join our team at Devon County Council. As a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, you will play a vital role in improving outcomes for children and families in Devon.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver the Healthy Child Programme (HCP DH 2010) to improve health outcomes for children and families.
  • Contribute to the Public Health Agenda, meet Public Health targets, and reduce health inequalities in partnership with key agencies.
  • Protect children and promote their welfare, adhering to Local Safeguarding Children's Board policies and procedures.
  • Lead teams within Health Visiting and School Nursing, and partner with agencies as required.
  • Work in a defined geographical area, providing a Single Point of Access to families and stakeholders, and triaging referrals within the service.
  • Support service development, standard setting, clinical audit, and benchmarking to deliver a high-quality, needs-led service.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • Qualification in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visitor/School Nurse).
    • Strong evidence of continuous professional development.
    • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding procedures.
    • Proficient in health needs assessment, evaluation, and action planning.
  • Desirable:
    • Qualification at Masters level.
    • Up-to-date health visiting/school nursing experience.
    • Previous experience participating in research projects.
    • Proven ability to meet targets and deadlines.
