Design Engineer Job Description

Job Summary

Ambitious Resources Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team. As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing high voltage power conversion products and associated equipment.

Main Objectives

The successful candidate will be qualified in a relevant discipline and will have experience and knowledge of high voltage requirements. The Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  1. Liaising with customers to agree unit specifications.
  2. Designing and developing high voltage power conversion products and associated equipment to agreed specifications.
  3. Investigating/researching new design techniques (higher stability, lower noise, faster polarity reversing) where required.
  4. Accurately documenting the design to enable full manufacturing packages to be created or amended.
  5. Confirming that developed designs meet their requirements by test and/or simulation and calculation.
  6. Meeting agreed time-scales for a task or project.
  7. Ensuring that designs are cost-effective, designed for manufacture and test.
  8. Ensuring products are compliant with all current legal and regulatory requirements, avoiding the use of components, materials, or substances that present a threat to the environment.
  9. Products will optimise life cycle duration and if practical be repairable, energy efficient, and have no undue environmental impact.
  10. Assuming ownership of the assigned projects from conception to completion and giving continued support while in service.
  11. Responsibility for adhering to the Company's ISO 9001 Quality, ISO 14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. Knowledge of up-to-date components, technology and manufacturing techniques.
  2. Knowledge of current regulations and procedures and knowledge of how they affect design.
  3. Experience of UC design with respect to analogue control/systems would be desirable.
  4. Ability to keep accurate records.
  5. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate with both colleagues and customers.
  6. Understanding of constraints of PCB layout and mechanical packaging.
  7. Ability to work under pressure to demanding timescales.
  8. Ability to follow formal design procedures and methodologies in accordance with ISO 9001:2000.
  9. Schematic Capture using CADSTAR desirable.
  10. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  11. Self-motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.
