Job Title: Children & Young People Officer

Southend on Sea City Council is a Unitary local authority, providing vital services to meet the needs of the local community. We employ around 1,800 staff who are working alongside our partners and local communities to deliver the city vision and make lives better for the people of Southend.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Children & Young People Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Youth Justice Service, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that we provide a first-class professional service to children, young people, and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake assessments and write reports on young people and their families for court, panels, and professional meetings.
  • Engage with young people and their families while they are on a court order, ensuring adherence to YJB policies and practices.
  • Manage highly complex cases that pose significant risk to others in the community, including young people involved in harmful sexual behaviour, gangs, or County Lines.
  • Work collaboratively with other agencies to provide a comprehensive service to children, young people, and their families.

Requirements:

  • Relevant professional qualification to degree level (or equivalent) in Youth Justice, Youth & Community, Probation Service, or Social Work.
  • Extensive experience of undertaking assessments and writing reports.
  • Experience of assessing and managing the risk of harm to others and protecting the public, managing the safety and well-being of young people both in the community and custody.
