The Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) is seeking a dedicated Scientific Technician in Applied Sciences to become a vital member of our Technology Development Group, leveraging your expertise to contribute to our mission.


As part of our Plasma Diagnostic Support Team, you will engage in a diverse array of scheduled and preventative maintenance tasks on diagnostic equipment, supporting the ORION laser facility. This role involves assisting in the assembly and evaluation of custom hardware while collaborating with engineers and scientists to facilitate laboratory experiments.


Location:
AWE Aldermaston, West Berkshire

Our facility is conveniently situated between major transport links, providing free onsite parking for our employees.


Given the sensitive nature of this position, it is expected that the successful candidate will primarily work onsite during their scheduled hours.


Salary:
Competitive salary range, commensurate with qualifications and experience, along with role-specific allowances. Opportunities for paid overtime may also be available.

Who Are We Looking For?

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • A recognized qualification in a relevant field, such as City & Guilds, BTEC Level 2, or equivalent experience in a STEM discipline (computing, science, engineering, physics).
Additional knowledge or experience in the following areas would be advantageous:

  • Practical expertise in mechanical, electronic, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in fault diagnosis techniques for specialized equipment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make informed decisions within your work area.
  • Experience in reviewing and providing feedback on relevant documentation and reports.
  • Familiarity with testing and measurement instruments.
  • Maintenance and repair skills for electronic/electrical systems at a modular level.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety regulations and promoting a secure work culture.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or workshop setting.
  • Operational Craft experience.
