Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Finance Business Partner who will take charge of Income and Opex management. This role involves extensive business collaboration, comprehensive reporting, forecasting, and in-depth analysis to support various projects aimed at innovating and maintaining the railway infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Your role will encompass the following duties:

  • Consolidate and critically assess periodic financial outcomes and forecasts, providing expert advice to identify and mitigate risks while uncovering opportunities for efficiency.
  • Deliver professional recommendations and financial guidance on accounting standards to ensure compliance and financial integrity.
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic accounts, relevant analyses, and business plans to facilitate informed decision-making.
  • Understand and influence cost and income drivers to achieve annual business objectives and manage overall financial settlements effectively.
  • Coach and challenge senior budget holders to enhance their understanding of financial performance against budgets, ensuring effective management within financial limits.
  • Proactively review budget proposals and submissions, offering insights and initiatives aimed at cost savings and operational efficiency.
  • Drive the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs) and deliverables, highlighting significant financial trends to support decision-making.
  • Lead key financial performance meetings with budget holders, providing expert financial advice to promote sound business decisions and governance.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement investment strategies and new business initiatives that enhance performance.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Membership (or progress towards membership) of a recognized accounting body (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW) or equivalent experience.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Proven experience in a complex financial environment, demonstrating expertise in risk management and financial oversight.
  • A strong track record in budget management and governance, with the ability to interpret financial landscapes effectively.
  • Significant experience in navigating ambiguity within financial contexts, coupled with strong evaluative and decision-making capabilities.
  • Advanced technical knowledge of finance and accounting, applied within a commercial setting.
  • A degree in a relevant field such as accounting, finance, or business management, or equivalent practical experience.

Desirable Attributes:

While not essential, the following will be advantageous:

  • Full membership of a relevant postgraduate professional body (CIMA/ACCA/ICAEW).
  • Experience with Oracle-based financial systems.
  • Extensive experience across multiple finance disciplines.
  • Knowledge of government accounting practices and financial governance.
  • Understanding of project management principles with a history of successfully managing complex projects.
