About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Dietitian to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist nutritional care and counseling to patients on the Acute Assessment and Frail Elderly Units at Whipps Cross Hospital.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide highly specialist nutritional care and counseling to patients on the Acute Assessment and Frail Elderly Units at Whipps Cross Hospital.
  • Support junior dietitians in providing a service to inpatients at Whipps Cross University Hospital.
  • Liaise with community colleagues regarding safe discharge and prevention of admission to hospital where appropriate.
  • Act as an expert resource on the nutritional management of inpatients and educate and train dietetic students and other healthcare professionals within the trust.
  • Be actively involved in the trust's clinical governance programme by taking a leadership role in ensuring continuing professional development, audit, research, and service development activities within this specialist area.

  • Essential:
    • HPC registered
    • BSc Nutrition & Dietetics or relevant postgraduate qualification
    • Qualification in area of specialisation or evidence of significant experience
  • Desirable:
    • Teaching Qualification
Experience
  • Essential:
    • Significant experience working as a dietitian, including experience within nutritional support (oral and enteral).
    • Experience of working within a broad variety of specialisms (to include older people's medicine).
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in parenteral nutrition.
Knowledge
  • Essential:
    • In-depth knowledge to expert level in nutrition in a broad range of specialities.
    • Ability to communicate life-threatening/ complex medical conditions in a sensitive and easily understandable language.
    • Flexible, adaptable, and creative.
    • Able to reflect and appraise own performance.
Skills
  • Essential:
    • Experience of delivering undergraduate student supervision and clinical education to graduate standard in area of specialty.
    • Experience of supervision of junior members of clinical staff.
