Job Overview

We are excited to announce a vacancy for a Team Manager within our Family Support and Safeguarding division at North Somerset Council.

Role Summary

The Family Support and Safeguarding division comprises dedicated teams of senior social workers, social workers, and family support professionals who collaboratively deliver essential social work assessments, interventions, and support aimed at fostering positive changes and outcomes for children and young individuals.

In this role, you will oversee approximately six social workers, ensuring manageable caseloads, with an average of 18 children per worker, striving towards a target of 15. We prioritize continuous learning and development, investing in our team members to empower them to provide exceptional support while maintaining a strong emphasis on innovative solutions and family preservation.

We seek a qualified or aspiring team manager who is genuinely passionate about social work, possesses confidence in performance management, and is committed to collaborative Quality Assurance initiatives to lead and enhance team operations. Ideal candidates will demonstrate leadership capabilities that align with our practice model, Signs of Safety, which emphasizes strengths-based social work and the core values and principles that guide our practice. We welcome applicants who are already trained in this methodology as well as those eager to receive training.

The successful candidate will manage the daily operations of family support and safeguarding, which includes conducting assessments and providing support for children in need, child protection, pre-proceedings, care proceedings, and adoption processes. You should be a qualified social worker with experience in supervising and leading teams, showcasing enthusiasm, ambition, and a comprehensive understanding of service planning and improvement.

Our division consists of six Family Support and Safeguarding Teams, and you will benefit from the backing of a skilled group of seasoned managers who collaborate to ensure high-quality safeguarding and support across the North Somerset area.

Important Information

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

A valid driving license and access to personal transportation, or an alternative suitable travel method, is a mandatory requirement for this role.

Candidate Profile

You will be accountable for maintaining high standards within the team, providing effective management and leadership to ensure that the services rendered to children, young people, and their families are of the utmost quality.

Additionally, you will play a crucial role in supporting the development of Newly Qualified Social Workers (ASYE) throughout their initial year in the profession.
