Project Overview

As a seasoned Estimating Manager, you will play a pivotal role in our Supply Chain Team, operating from our Leeds office. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing the estimating and tendering processes for a diverse range of projects, including those in education, healthcare, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Justice, and leisure sectors, with project values reaching up to £30 million. You will be tasked with producing competitive cost estimates while collaborating closely with Commercial, Bid Management, and Design Management teams to formulate the most cost-effective and precise proposals.

Key Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing tenders for projects within the education, healthcare, Ministry of Defence, or Ministry of Justice sectors in an Estimating Manager capacity or similar role.
  • A proven track record of handling the tendering process for projects valued between £5 million and £30 million or more.
  • A solid background in the construction industry, with a minimum of 5 years of experience working for a leading construction contractor or subcontractor.

Core Duties

  • Conducting specification analysis and reviews.
  • Preparing and submitting tenders.
  • Adjudicating tenders within established limits.
  • Understanding the construction process of each project.
  • Complying with company policies and procedures.
  • Preparing bills of quantities and pricing documentation.
  • Reviewing enquiry returns and ensuring compliance.
  • Gathering pricing elements to formulate tender sums.
  • Utilizing estimation software and tools to produce accurate cost forecasts.
  • Negotiating with suppliers to secure optimal pricing for materials and services.
  • Assessing and enhancing estimation procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Evaluating the potential impact of changes or unforeseen issues on project costs.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all estimates prior to submission.
  • Engaging with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to obtain quotes and verify costs.
  • Adjusting future estimates based on feedback and insights from completed projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Providing insights and recommendations based on estimating data to senior management.
  • Overseeing the creation of bid proposals, including detailed cost breakdowns and justifications.
  • Preparing comprehensive cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and overheads.
  • Developing and implementing estimation strategies and methodologies to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
  • Assessing project plans and specifications to define the scope of work and estimate associated costs.
  • Assisting in the development of project budgets based on estimates and managing budget adjustments as needed.
  • Reviewing estimates post-bid to identify discrepancies and areas for improvement.
  • Compiling and delivering detailed reports on estimates, including comparisons with actual project costs.
  • Collecting and analyzing data from previous projects, industry trends, and market conditions to inform estimates.
  • Coordinating with project managers and stakeholders to ensure all project elements are considered in the bid.
  • Mentoring and guiding estimating team members to maintain high standards of work and promote professional growth.
  • Collaborating with various departments to gather essential information and insights for precise estimates.
  • Identifying potential risks and uncertainties in estimates and developing contingency plans to manage them effectively.
