Assistant Culinary Manager

Position Overview
The University of Manchester is in search of a dedicated and passionate individual to fill the role of Sous Chef. This essential position involves overseeing the daily operations of our primary kitchen located in Fallowfield, ensuring the delivery of exceptional catering services for various events and hospitality needs across the campus.
In collaboration with the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef, the successful candidate will manage food preparation, production, and service, leading and inspiring the kitchen staff to uphold the highest standards of culinary excellence and hospitality. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordinating catered events and conferences
- Managing lunch and dinner services
- Overseeing banquets and weddings
- Supporting additional food service outlets within the department
The ideal candidate will assist in planning and executing all hospitality services, ensuring smooth operations across multiple venues on campus. This includes leading service during significant events such as large dinners, weddings, and conferences.
Working closely with the Head Chef and Senior Sous Chef, the Sous Chef will also contribute to menu planning, costing, and the development of innovative culinary offerings, fostering a vibrant food culture within the team.
Applicants should possess a Professional Cookery Qualification (minimum City and Guilds 706/2) and have relevant food production management experience. A solid understanding of Health and Safety regulations, including Food Safety and Allergen Management, is essential. Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are crucial for success in this role.
This is a full-time position, requiring 40 hours of work per week across 5 days, including evenings and weekends.
