Are you skilled in working within a specialized educational environment, particularly with students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, as well as those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)? Have you recently undergone training to become a higher-level teaching assistant and are now ready to embark on a rewarding career in a dedicated educational setting?

To qualify for this position, you must possess significant experience working with children who have special needs, complemented by relevant qualifications. Familiarity with ASD, ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues is advantageous. It is essential to manage challenging behaviors with composure and effectiveness, as many students may display such behaviors.

The committed teaching staff collaborates during challenging circumstances, implementing interventions when necessary. A positive and patient approach is vital when addressing various situations.

Your primary focus will be on SEMH, as students may not have excelled in traditional educational environments. Your responsibilities will include providing classroom support, which encompasses planning, marking, and infusing creativity into lessons. Daily briefings will outline the day's objectives and facilitate discussions regarding student progress with senior educators.

Your key responsibilities will involve:

  • Assisting teachers within the classroom
  • Working with students individually or in small groups
  • Overseeing classroom resources
  • Accompanying students on outings
  • Engaging with students who face social challenges during breaks
  • Managing elevated behaviors and ensuring student safety
  • Organizing activities and displays
  • Recognizing and celebrating student achievements
  • Participating in therapeutic sessions

This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, during term time only. Initially, this position is temporary, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent role.
