About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Head of Trade Policy. This is a key role within the Department of Health and Social Care, responsible for leading our trade policy work on medicines and public health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement trade policy on medicines and public health, working closely with stakeholders across government and the life sciences industry.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including the intellectual property office and Department for Business and Trade.
  • Research and analyze trade policy issues, providing expert advice to senior officials and Ministers.
  • Support the negotiation of Free Trade Agreements and multilateral trade agreements, ensuring that UK health interests are protected and maximized.
  • Line manage a team of professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure the successful delivery of trade policy objectives.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in trade policy, particularly in relation to intellectual property, tariffs, and health-specific trade issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, balancing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience of briefing senior officials on complex issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide expert advice on trade policy issues.
