About Your New Role

Weightmans is seeking an experienced Associate or Principal Associate with a strong background in professional indemnity, particularly in the construction sector. As a key member of our Specialty team, you will be responsible for managing cases with limited supervision, assisting partners with their caseloads, and providing expert advice to clients.

Main Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage cases, ensuring timely and effective resolution
  • Assist partners with their caseloads, providing support and guidance as needed
  • Prepare detailed reports, correspondence, and court documents, demonstrating exceptional technical skills
  • Advise clients on liability and coverage issues, providing clear and concise guidance
  • Liaise with insurers, insured clients, experts, witnesses, counsel, and other parties, ensuring seamless communication
  • Ensure compliance with client service level agreements, relevant policies, and procedures
  • Support business development initiatives, contributing to the growth and success of the team
  • Complete management information, providing valuable insights and analysis
  • Develop and delegate tasks to junior team members, fostering a culture of collaboration and growth
  • Assist with other work allocated by the Team Manager, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability

About You

  • At least 5 years' PQE or equivalent, with a strong background in professional indemnity and construction insurance litigation
  • Expertise in professional indemnity, with a focus on construction and insurance policy coverage analysis
  • Experience in insurance litigation, policy coverage analysis, and professional risk claims relating to construction disputes
  • Understanding of commercial insurance policies, the insurance market, reporting arrangements, reserving philosophies, and the relationship between brokers, underwriters/insurers, and lawyers
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage a caseload effectively
  • Strong legal and analytical skills, with attention to detail and a commercial, solution-driven approach
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude and ability to work well in a team
