Controllers play a crucial role in ensuring that the firm adheres to all financial control and reporting obligations as a global, regulated, and public financial institution. Our professionals assess the profitability and risks associated with every facet of the firm's operations. They also ensure compliance with regulations governing financial market transactions. We are a team of specialists responsible for managing the firm's liquidity, capital, and risk, while providing comprehensive financial control and reporting functions. YOUR IMPACT
The Financial Reporting department comprises five teams: Operating Entities Controllers, Investment Accounting, Structured Investing Group Controllers, Goldman Sachs International Controllers, and Regulatory Financial Reporting Controllers.
As an Investment Accounting Controller, you will assume full responsibility for the financial reporting and oversight of legal entities engaged in a diverse array of real estate assets, loans, debt, and private equity investments. You will cultivate a thorough understanding of these entities, including their investments, business strategies, and related technical and management accounting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation, analysis, review, and presentation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to senior management, directors, and other key stakeholders in accordance with US GAAP.
- Preparation and analysis of financial statements, including resolution of technical accounting issues and disclosure requirements, while liaising with external auditors.
- Review and oversight of monthly and annual local GAAP financial reporting prepared by our external accounting partners across Europe.
- Preparation and explanation of monthly P&L estimates to the trading desk and coordination with Product Control.
- Management of the takedown of new investments and development of processes with external partners to ensure timely receipt of accurate accounting and management reporting information.
- Oversight of our external accounting partners to ensure compliance with local obligations, including tax, regulatory, and statutory audits.
- Full ownership and subject matter expertise for entire legal entities.
- Understanding the business and strategy of your entities, staying informed about business and market developments, and effectively communicating this to key stakeholders.
- Coordination with multiple teams across the firm and globally, including Realty Management Division, Merchant Banking Division, Legal, Compliance, Tax, Operations, Technology, and Investment Accounting teams in Asia and the US, in a collaborative and problem-solving capacity.
- Proactively seeking opportunities to enhance workflows, technology, and the integrity of reporting information.
- Involvement in a broad range of department-wide projects and initiatives, as well as cross-departmental initiatives.
REQUIREMENTS
- Qualified accountant – ACA (Newly qualified to 2 years PQE experience).
- Demonstrated technical accounting knowledge in your current area of expertise; preparation of audited financial statements under UK GAAP or IFRS is advantageous.
- Experience in preparing audited financial statements under US, UK GAAP, or IFRS is beneficial; a track record of process improvement and value addition for clients/stakeholders.
- Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is required.
- Strong analytical skills – ability to solve problems and exercise sound judgment in a highly regulated environment.
- Functional expertise – enjoyment in staying updated with emerging business, economic, and market trends.
- Strong technical accounting skills – attention to detail, initiative to broaden knowledge, and resolve accounting issues.
