AWE Plc is seeking an Experimental Physicist to become a vital member of our Materials Physics Group. This position is designed to enhance our understanding of nuclear warhead architecture, functionality, efficiency, and national nuclear safety through comprehensive theoretical exploration, modeling, and evaluation.

About the Role

In this role, you will contribute significantly to the UK's defense capabilities by ensuring the integrity and reliability of the nation's nuclear deterrent. AWE is recognized for its cutting-edge scientific, engineering, and technological expertise, supported by some of the most sophisticated research and production facilities globally.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, implementing, and conducting experiments at AWE and international laser research centers to validate theoretical frameworks and proprietary physics simulations.
  • Utilizing and advancing computational tools to forecast and interpret experimental outcomes.
  • Collaborating with various departments within AWE.
  • Engaging with international collaborators and external partners in your area of expertise.
  • Drafting comprehensive proposals and technical documentation regarding experiments and their findings.

  • A degree in a scientific or STEM field, or an equivalent qualification or experience.
  • A passion for conducting technical research and performing thorough assessments to derive valid scientific conclusions.
  • Proficiency in using desktop computing systems and familiarity with standard IT applications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing abilities.
  • The capability to manage a diverse workload effectively, ensuring timely project completion.
  • A systematic approach to resolving complex issues using technical expertise.
