About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy General Manager to join our Cancer Directorate. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the performance and delivery of cancer services, as well as overseeing staff engagement and communication, workforce planning, and financial efficiency targets.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in senior operational management, project management, NHS policy, contracting and funding, strategic planning and delivery, and staff development and communications. They will also have experience of working with externally provided data to drive service improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the performance and delivery of cancer services
  • Oversee staff engagement and communication, workforce planning, and financial efficiency targets
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve cancer performance and delivery
  • Work closely with external partners to drive service improvement
  • Manage and implement change initiatives to improve cancer services
Person Specification
  • Educated to bachelor's level or equivalent in experience
  • Evidence of further personal development
  • Coaching and mentoring qualification
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a management role, to include staff, budget and operational experience, or equivalent
  • Experience as an effective team leader, demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to motivate others
  • Experience of managing complex budgets including their control and deployment
  • Demonstrable success in working collaboratively across professions, services and organisational boundaries
  • Demonstrable success in leading and managing change
  • Experience in developing strategies and approaches which impact across the whole organisation and will meet the needs and suit the culture of the Trust
  • Experience consulting and negotiating in a senior capacity with key partners
  • Significant experience of working in partnership with other external agencies to develop, implement and evaluate policy and strategy including managing change
  • Detailed knowledge of the NHS and the Department of Health Agenda with explicit understanding of current issues across the NHS Professions
  • Personal experience of managing and implementing a significant programme of change or service development
  • Proven pro-active approach to problem solving
  • Sound statistical and financial analysis skills
  • Excellent analytical and interpretive skills, enabling the development, planning and implementation of service changes
  • Experience of working across departmental and organisational boundaries to deliver specific targets and to improve services for patients
  • Experience of managing organisational change
  • Experience clinical audit and quality control
Skills
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to manage highly complex, sensitive or contentious issues/situations
  • Evidence of successfully achieving cancer performance standards
