Senior Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our Financial Management (Operational) team at Lancashire County Council.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide financial management and analysis support to the Resilience and Strategy Team
  • Develop and manage the finance graduate scheme, mentoring graduates and providing guidance and training to budget holders
  • Translate complex financial information into simple, understandable language for senior managers and Members
  • Analyse large amounts of internal and external data to inform financial decisions
  • Complete Central Government returns and research government projections and policies
  • Network and learn from other Councils, gathering intelligence on complex financial areas and assessing their impact on the authority and wider Lancashire area
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in Local Government finance, with a strong understanding of financial management and analysis
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues and senior managers
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to work and a willingness to adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear, concise recommendations
  • Knowledge of financial regulations and compliance requirements, with the ability to ensure that financial processes and procedures are accurate and up-to-date
