About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Jackson Young Ltd. As a key member of our commercial team, you will play a leading role in the financial management of our luxury construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Ownership: Take full commercial responsibility for multiple high-end residential and commercial projects, ensuring they are delivered within budget and to the client's expectations.
  • Cost Planning & Control: Develop and maintain detailed cost plans and budgets for projects ranging from £10 million to £35 million, providing accurate forecasts and ensuring robust cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contract & Procurement Management: Lead the preparation and negotiation of contracts, including bespoke contracts, ensuring all terms are commercially sound and protect the company's interests.
  • Valuations & Payments: Manage and certify subcontractor and supplier valuations, ensuring all works are measured, valued, and paid in accordance with the agreed terms.
  • Risk & Value Management: Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities, providing advice on value engineering solutions without compromising on the quality required for super prime projects.
  • Client & Stakeholder Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on all commercial matters, ensuring clear communication and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Variation Management: Manage variations and change orders, ensuring they are accurately costed, approved, and reflected in the project budget.
  • Cost Reporting & Reconciliations: Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports, including cost/value reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, and final accounts, to senior management and clients.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Provide leadership to junior and assistant quantity surveyors, offering guidance, support, and mentorship to develop their skills and ensure the smooth running of the commercial team.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline. MRICS qualification is preferred.
  • Industry Experience: A minimum of 8 years of experience as a Quantity Surveyor, with at least 3 years in a senior role. Experience in luxury or high-end residential/commercial projects is essential.
  • Project Experience: Proven track record in managing large-scale construction projects ranging from £10 million to £35 million, ideally within the super prime or high-end sector.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of bespoke contracts and cost management tools such as CostX or equivalent software.
  • Financial Acumen: Exceptional financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting, with a proven ability to maintain strict cost control.
  • Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills, with the ability to resolve complex commercial issues and secure favourable outcomes.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience managing and mentoring junior team members, and a collaborative approach to working with wider project teams.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of liaising confidently with clients, contractors, and consultants at all levels.
  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making: Strategic, proactive, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to make informed decisions that drive project success.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage multiple high-value projects concurrently, ensuring all commercial aspects are delivered within agreed timeframes.
