IT Security Officer for Navy Command

Position Overview
The Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ) Business Services Team operates under the leadership of the Chief of Staff (COS) HQ, providing essential support across various divisions. This team is dedicated to the effective management of services such as Security, Postal Services, Travel and Transport, Facilities Management, and Administrative Support Services, including Conference Services.
Role Responsibilities
The IT Security Officer plays a crucial role in safeguarding information systems and ensuring compliance with security protocols. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough examinations of security maintenance and system logs, ensuring they are countersigned by the designated authority as per the Security Policy Documentation.
- Maintaining an up-to-date Asset Register for all CIS equipment, ensuring accurate documentation and registration.
- Keeping a detailed record of personnel authorized to access the system, verifying their security clearances and adherence to local security regulations.
- Enforcing password policies to enhance system security.
- Overseeing the secure custody of protectively marked magnetic media and installation IT documents, with regular spot checks to ensure compliance.
- Coordinating security education programs for all installation staff and system users.
- Performing spot-checks on IT assets held by external units under NCHQ’s jurisdiction.
- Regularly reviewing and updating the NCHQ Portable Electronic Device (PED) Policy in collaboration with the Unit Security Officer.
- Reporting all information and cyber breaches to the Navy WARP through the appropriate channels, regardless of local resolution.
- Ensuring the presence of a Cyber Champion within the unit to promote good security practices and foster a positive security culture through training and awareness initiatives.
- Conducting annual cyber assurance assessments of holdings, policies, and procedures for subordinate units as applicable.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with proficiency in numeracy and computer applications (Excel & Microsoft Word).
- Able to work efficiently under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
