Position Overview
Applications for this substantive role will only be considered if you possess full GMC registration with a license to practice and are listed on the Specialist Register or are expecting to receive CCT/Professional Portfolio (formerly CESR) within six months of the interview.
This is a replacement opportunity for a full-time Senior Haematology Consultant to become part of our team of five Consultants at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust.
Approval from the Royal College has been secured for this position.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves serving as a Senior Haematology Consultant within the Trust, delivering comprehensive clinical care for patients with blood disorders, including haematological malignancies. You will also provide expert guidance on all facets of haematology to colleagues, both within the Trust and in Primary Care. Additionally, you will offer clinical support for the laboratories at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General Hospital.
Your primary location will be at Furness General Hospital; however, you will be responsible for on-call coverage across all hospitals.

The University of Lancaster Medical School enrolls around 130 undergraduate medical students annually, and the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for providing acute practice placements throughout the five-year medical degree program.
Job Duties
The Medicine Care Group, which encompasses Clinical Haematology, promotes a collaborative approach across the three main sites: Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital, and Furness General Hospital. You will be expected to actively participate in this initiative. Senior Haematology Consultants are on-call for both clinical and laboratory consultations across the entire Trust and provide mutual coverage for holidays and study leave.
The post-holder will have full clinical responsibility for both inpatients and outpatients, with open referral clinics. You will maintain ongoing responsibility for the patients under your care and work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the effective operation of the department.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Qualifications
- FRCPath (Haematology) or equivalent and M/FRCP or equivalent are mandatory qualifications for this role.
- Registration with the General Medical Council with a license to practice and accredited specialist status in Haematology (or within six months of obtaining CCT) or equivalent.
- Full and Specialist registration (with a license to practice) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or eligibility for registration within six months of the interview.
- UK-trained applicants must also hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of receiving CCT by the interview date. Non-UK trained applicants must provide evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT.
