About the Role

The NHS England Academic Training Programme Director will play a vital role in shaping the future of clinical academic training within the NHS. As a key member of the KSS Deanery team, you will be responsible for selecting, supporting, and developing academic trainees, as well as mentoring clinical academics and educational supervisors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Academic Training Programme
  • Work closely with IAT and SFP Leads from HEIs in KSS to ensure effective mentorship of Academic Clinical Fellows, Clinical Lecturers, and SFPs
  • Collaborate with the Postgraduate Dean to ensure alignment with NHS England's strategic objectives
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including NHS Trusts, HEIs, and professional bodies
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the KSS Deanery team to ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical academic training
Requirements
  • Full GMC registration
  • Either Consultant (including honorary/locum consultant) with a minimum of a 2 PA clinical contract or qualified GP with both clinical practice and academic sessions
  • Research active with evidence of recent relevant research and publications
  • Higher degree (MD, PhD/DPhil)
  • Proven organisational ability
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience as an Educational Supervisor or in a senior clinical management role (lead clinician for a specialty)
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Consultant/GP
