Position Overview

We are excited to present a rewarding opportunity for the position of Quality Assurance Pharmacist within the Pharmacy Specialist team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Pharmacy Aseptic Services are dedicated to preparing and dispensing patient-specific, aseptically produced medications, including cytotoxic treatments, monoclonal antibodies, CIVAS, Clinical Trials, and OPAT from our licensed facilities.

We seek a detail-oriented individual with exceptional organizational capabilities and the ability to meet stringent deadlines. A highly motivated team player with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills will be essential in fostering collaboration with both external contractors and internal stakeholders, including clinicians, nurses, and management, to achieve optimal results.

The successful applicant will join the Quality Assurance team, collaborating closely with the Aseptic Units' Accountable Pharmacists and other pharmacy professionals to deliver top-notch Quality Assurance Services, ensuring a safe and efficient pharmaceutical service across various wards and departments.

Main Responsibilities

The role encompasses a variety of tasks, including:

  • Overseeing daily operations and management of the Quality Assurance Service
  • Accurately coordinating and planning workload
  • Ensuring proper storage and handling of pharmaceuticals
  • Maintaining and enhancing GMP documentation
  • Providing technical training and validation for Aseptic Unit personnel
  • Conducting appraisals, one-on-one meetings, and performance evaluations for QA staff
  • Completing in-house training programs to ensure competency in all areas
  • Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines
  • Maintaining knowledge and demonstrating competency in Quality Control/Quality Assurance matters, Health & Safety regulations, and COSHH
  • Implementing quality-monitoring systems and ensuring compliance with standards
