We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Development Engineer with a minimum of 6 years of experience in product development to join our innovative team at SET Limited. As a prominent provider of electronic solutions, we are dedicated to advancing rail technology and enhancing existing systems.

SET Limited is a Derby-based small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) specializing in diagnosing and resolving issues in aging and obsolete electronic and electro-mechanical assemblies, primarily within the rail sector. Our expertise spans a wide array of technologies, from magnetic amplifiers to microprocessors, and we are committed to developing cutting-edge rail traction solutions in collaboration with major train manufacturers.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving and coordinating various projects at SET, particularly those focused on electronics and mechatronics solutions. You will need to be exceptionally organized, analytical, and an effective communicator, with a comprehensive understanding of product development processes.

Key Duties Include:

  • Collecting requirements for electronic and mechatronic products and systems.
  • Collaborating with a team of engineers to develop designs and concepts for products and systems.
  • Creating technical documentation, including requirements, specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and test results.
  • Leading technical design reviews to ensure project alignment and quality.
  • Conducting hands-on testing and troubleshooting of products.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in product development, particularly in areas such as control and sensing systems, power electronics, and design for manufacturing.
  • Proficient in discussing concepts, gathering requirements, and identifying risks while planning effective mitigation strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate project activities, often leading small teams.
  • A dedicated and passionate engineer with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
